Railroad Police Services

As established by Art. 2.121 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the Texas Railroad Association is the agency appointed to submit railroad police applications to the director of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and to the executive director of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).

The railroad employer is responsible for submitting the time-sensitive application documents to our office in compliance with the commission rules. Any applications not meeting the time requirements will require a written statement explaining the reason for the delay in reporting.

Appointment Application

The applicant must meet the minimum standards for initial licensure as stated in Commission Rule §217.1 Application* packets are available by request from our office or to expedite the process see the below Forms and Information Available for Download section of this page. TCOLE forms may be downloaded from their website at www.tcole.texas.gov, however note that forms are continuously changing therefore we recommend that you only print forms as needed.

Separation / Termination

A licensee separation/termination must be reported on TCOLE form F-5 Separation of Licensee within 7 business days and a copy of such form shall be provided to the person as required by Occupations Code 1701.452, therefore all F-5 forms must be received in our office within 5 days to allow for adequate time to process it.

Firearms Proficiency

Each agency or entity that employs at least one peace officer shall require that each peace officer must successfully complete the current firearms proficiency requirements at least once each year. See Commission Rule §218.9 for more information.
